Coursera
Coursera is founded by the Computer Professors Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller of Stanford University. The over 150 international Universities partners allowing the platform to offer courses in many different languages. The edX courses are always free to follow, but if you want to have a certification you need to pay a fee. The certificates (Certificates of Achievement) are of different types depending on the different needs of users.
Like the Coursera courses, also the EdX courses generally start on a specific date and have an average duration of about ten weeks. For most of the courses there are quizzes and a final test which concerns the whole course program. Each course has a community where you can meet other students of the same course, a functional board for the publication of announcements, a discussion forum and wikis, a useful external help that completes the course's teachings. The members also have a chat available.
Khan Academy
Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization created in 2006 by Salman Khan, a US engineer originally from Bangladesh. Video lessons cover a wide range of disciplines: Mathematics, History, Finance, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Economics. The students of the courses are mainly high school students. All the video lessons of Khan Academy are free and there are no certificates of attendance or completion as for the other MOOC platforms.
Udemy
Udemy is a learning platform that allows anyone to publish video courses online. Udemy course is not accredted but for all courses it is expected to issue a certificate of completion of the course. Most of the Udemy courses are paid, but in some cases it is possible to see some of the few first lessons for free. If you like the course you can buy it at huge discount using Udemy discount code which is released by the instructor and/or the Udemy website.
Udemy courses are all self-paced. The course's materials are mainly video tutorials, since this platform has a different type of setting. The courses are more likely to updates.
